Nurse anesthesia education

  • Requirements :

To be admitted to the course leading to the state diploma of nurse anaesthetist, you must:

hold a State Diploma of Nurse (Art. L. 4311-3 or Art. L. 4311-12 of the Public Health Code)

provide proof of a minimum of two years of practice, in full-time equivalent of the nursing profession, on 1 January of the year of the competition;

have successfully passed the admission tests for the training leading to the State diploma of nurse anaesthetist, organised by each program

have paid the registration fees (except in training centers under the Ministry of Defense)

have entered into an agreement to pay the tuition fees set by the board of directors of the managing body (except in training centers under the Ministry of Defense).

  • Admission criteria :

The selection tests assess the candidates’ ability to follow the course leading to the state diploma of nurse anaesthetist. They include:

A written and anonymous two-hour eligibility test to assess the candidate’s professional and scientific knowledge with reference to the training curriculum of the state nursing diploma and his or her writing skills.

Candidates who have obtained a score above or equal to the average in the test are declared eligible.

The list of candidates declared eligible is posted in alphabetical order at the school. Each candidate receives a notification of his results;

an oral admission test to assess the candidate’s abilities:

– to decline clinical reasoning and manage a care situation;

– to analyse the skills developed during his professional experience;

– to present his professional project;

– to follow the training.

 

This test consists of a discussion paper with the selection board, preceded by a preparation of equal duration for all candidates.

A score at least equal to the average is required.

  • duration :

The studies are of a duration of twenty-four months, organized into four academic semesters,

full-time. They include, spread over the whole school year, fundamental and clinical theoretical and practical teaching, divided into teaching units

  • certification : Diploma and Master’s degree
  • curriculum :theory, clinical training and research

 

Recognition of professional qualifications for the practice of the profession of Nurse-Anesthesist in France for European nationals (and associates)

 

The IADE profession (like all paramedical professions) is regulated in France.

To use the title and qualify as a paramedical profession in France, you must:

– hold the corresponding French diploma

– or have a recognition of the professional qualifications of the said profession, issued by the Regional Direction for Youth, Sports and Social Cohesion (DRJSCS).

 

Procedures for awarding the State Diploma of Nurse Anaesthetist

The state diploma of nurse anaesthetist is acquired by obtaining the 120 European credits corresponding to the acquisition of the 7 competencies

60 European credits for teaching units;

60 European credits for practical internship training.

Each skill is obtained cumulatively:

By validating all the teaching units in relation to the competence;

By acquiring all the elements of the competency assessed during the internships.

The validation of the teaching units is certified by a semester jury.

Each semester, the pedagogic responsible and the trainer responsible for pedagogical follow-up present the students’ results to the semester jury so that it can decide on the allocation of European credits and on the continuation of the student’s career path. During the last semester, the results are presented to the semester jury, which decides whether or not to present the anesthesia nursing student to the jury for the award of the state diploma.

Nurse anesthesia practice in France :

The State registered nurse anaesthetist provides specific care and technical procedures in the fields of anaesthesia-resuscitation, emergency medicine and pain management.

The anesthesia nurse analyzes and evaluates situations and intervenes to ensure the quality of care and patient safety in anesthesia resuscitation in the peri-interventional period.

His activities contribute to diagnosis, treatment and research. He participates in the training in these specific fields.

 

The state-certified nurse anaesthetist works within multidisciplinary teams, within a defined regulatory framework, in collaboration and under the responsibility of anesthesiology-reanimation physicians.

The State registered nurse anaesthetist provides specific care and technical interventions in the fields of anaesthesia-resuscitation, emergency medicine and pain management.

 

The anesthesia nurse analyzes and evaluates situations and intervenes to ensure the quality of care and patient safety in anesthesia resuscitation in the peri-interventional period.

His activities contribute to diagnosis, treatment and research. He participates in the training in these specific fields.

 

He works in the various anaesthesia sites and in the recovery room within the meaning of articles D.6124-91 of the Public Health Code, in intra- and extra-hospital emergency services and during certain types of transport (EMS, SMUR, other health transport).

His training and expertise give him additional competence within these different sites.

 

His expertise also allows him to act as a resource person or trainer, particularly in operating theatres and in intensive care and emergency units.

 

The nurse anaesthetist coordinates his activities with the hospitalization, medical and biomedical services.

 

Through the skills acquired in training, the nurse anaesthetist analyses, manages and evaluates situations in his or her field of competence in order to guarantee quality and patient safety.

 

The nurse anaesthetist also carries out prevention, education and training activities.

 

The nurse anaesthetist has an exclusive capacity for intervention, within the framework of an anaesthesia strategy established by an Anesthesiologist.
