IFNA President’s Message

March 5, 2007

The IFNA Executive Committee, Education Committee, and Congress Planning Committee will meet in Coppenhagen, Denmark on June 6-9, 2007. Denmark is one of three countries interested in hosting the 2014 World Congress. A site visit is planned for Denmark in June and additional visits will be made to Tunisia and Slovenia in early fall or winter this year. The Council of National representatives will select the site for the 2014 Congress (10th World Congress) in 2008. For now, mark your calendar for the 9th World Congress for Nurse Anesthetists to be held on June 4-7, 2010, in the Hague, Netherlands.

A major goal of IFNA is improved patient care through adoption of international standards and greater access to educational material for anesthetists. A source of great clinical education is The International Student Journal Of Nurse Anesthesia Sponsored by Baxter Pharmaceuticals and published by the Nurse Anesthesia Program at Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies. It is available now to all. The journals are now found by going to www.aana.com. Once you have opened the site, go to professional development, continuing education and students. The publication consists of clinical cases that serve as a nice educational supplement for clinicians.

The International Student Journal of Nurse Anesthesia is the only journal written by and for student nurse anesthetists. If you work with students, please consider submitting an article with a student to the journal. Take this step to be recognized! All case studies should be submitted to INTSJNA@aol.com.

We are always interested in knowing how IFNA can better assist member countries and individual members. Please send any suggestions you might have to souellette@triad.rr.com. Best wishes for a nice year. I hope to hear from you.
