IFNA President’s Update
June 2006

The 8th World Congress for Nurse Anesthetists was held on June 10-13, 2006 in Lausanne, Switzerland. Approximately 1100 participants representing 29 countries attended the meeting. The congress was a success! The Congress Planning Committee, Congress Chairman Karsten Boden, and the Swiss Association of Nurse Anesthetists are to be commended for an outstanding job in the planning and implementation of this congress. From the Opening Ceremony with the talented keynote speaker, Bertrand Piccard, until the band played the last note at the Gala Banquet, it was perfect.

The Council of National Representatives met for two days prior to the congress. We congratulate our newest member country Indonesia and look forward to working with those members. The CNR also voted to move forward with the Education Committee’s recommendation for international accreditation of nurse anesthesia educational programs. The process is voluntary! Accreditation applications are now being translated and should be available on this website in a few months. The IFNA Education Committee will review applications at their next meeting in June 2007.

Plans are underway for the 9th World Congress for nurse Anesthetists. The Congress will be held June 4-8, 2010 in The Hague, The Netherlands. We hope to see you there.
